The Federated History Department of NJIT and Rutgers Newark includes 8 and 18 faculty members at NJIT and Rutgers Newark respectively. As a Federated Department, students from NJIT and Rutgers Newark are able to take history courses offered on both campuses during the academic year as well as during two summer terms. Additionally, the Federated History Department administers two graduate programs, a Masters in History and a Masters in Teaching.
The history faculty at NJIT specialize in historical studies that appeal to students attending a science and technological university. NJIT history faculty offer courses in the history of technology, the history of medicine and health, environmental history, and the history of media and communication. The NJIT history faculty also administer a dynamic interdisciplinary B.A. program in Law, Technology, and Culture, which serves as the pre-law major at NJIT.
History faculty at Rutgers Newark supplement such offerings by the Federated History Department with specialized courses in world history, European history, gender history, urban history, and the history of race.

Recently, Federated history faculty have published books with world-renown academic publishers including Oxford University Press, University of Chicago Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, and the University of California Press, and also received prestigious research and writing awards from institutions such as Harvard University, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Historical Association.
